Security agencies have recovered 115 head of cattle following a confrontation with suspected bandits in Laikipia County, in an operation highlighting ongoing efforts to curb livestock theft and banditry.

The multi-agency team, drawn from the National Police Service and other security units, had been deployed to the Almororo area of Mukogodo to track down suspected bandits and recover stolen livestock.

During the operation, the team traced and recovered the animals in Seketoi Valley, where they had reportedly been driven by the suspects.

However, while escorting the livestock, the officers came under attack from the bandits, triggering a gun battle. Authorities say the security team returned fire and managed to repel the attackers.

Despite the ambush, the officers maintained control of the situation and successfully secured the recovered cattle.

The livestock are currently under escort as arrangements are made to return them to their rightful owners.

The operation is part of ongoing security efforts in banditry-prone regions, where authorities have intensified patrols and intelligence-led missions to dismantle criminal networks involved in cattle rustling.

The National Police Service has reiterated its commitment to restoring stability in affected areas and protecting the livelihoods of communities dependent on livestock.
