Twelve suspects have been arraigned before a Nairobi court for allegedly using forged academic certificates to secure employment in the National Police Service.
The accused, Moses Kobia, Brian Wekesa Mulonho, Geoffrey Mutahi, Felix Kelel Kishenkop, Hashim Kahindi Furaha, Eugene Kipchirchir, Brian Kipkemoi Cheruiyot, Irene Wanja, William Ngacha Ngatia, Kipchumba Kevin, Kevin Mutusi Mutua and Kasie Morgan Inyasa, were each charged separately with forgery and uttering false documents.
They appeared before Milimani Magistrate Paul Mutai, where they denied the charges brought under Sections 345 and 353 of the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, the suspects allegedly forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates bearing their names and presented them as genuine during a police recruitment exercise.
The court heard that the documents were submitted at the Administration Police College, Embakasi ‘A’ Campus in Nairobi, where recruitment was being conducted.
Prosecutors told the court that the accused knowingly presented falsified certificates in an attempt to qualify for enlistment into the police service, thereby gaining an unfair advantage over other applicants.
In his ruling, Magistrate Mutai acknowledged the right of the accused to bail but noted the seriousness of the charges.
“Bail is a constitutional right. However, considering the seriousness of the charges, the bond terms given are fair. You are at liberty to renew the application for reconsideration,” he ruled.
Each of the accused was granted a bond of KSh500,000 or an alternative cash bail of Ksh200,000.
The case is scheduled for mention on April 27, 2026, for pre-trial directions.
