The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nairobi has dismissed allegations surrounding recent regional developments, describing them as “baseless” and part of a broader effort to mislead the public and international community.
In a press release issued on April 13, 2026, the embassy stated that narratives being circulated by foreign actors are intended to shift attention from what it termed as long-standing violations of international law. It maintained that the claims are “unfounded” and driven by political interests rather than facts.
The embassy framed Iran’s actions as a lawful response, asserting that its conduct falls within its right to self-defence under international law. It emphasized that the situation arose from what it described as “premeditated aggression” against Iran, rather than any unilateral action on its part.
On the issue of nuclear activity, the statement reaffirmed Iran’s position that its programme remains peaceful, noting that it has been subject to international verification processes. According to the embassy, Iran has “officially and repeatedly declared” that its nuclear efforts are not aimed at weaponization.
The statement also raised concerns over what it described as unequal global scrutiny, arguing that some countries critical of Iran have not subjected themselves to similar international oversight despite possessing nuclear capabilities.
Highlighting the human cost of the conflict, the embassy pointed to civilian casualties and destruction of infrastructure, describing the situation as one involving “the brutal killing of civilians” and significant loss of life. It questioned whether such actions could be justified under international law.
The embassy further linked ongoing tensions in the region, including developments in key maritime areas, to external military actions, maintaining that Iran’s responses remain defensive in nature.
In closing, the embassy called on the international community to take action, urging global actors to “condemn these acts of aggression and hold the perpetrators accountable.” It reiterated Iran’s position that it remains committed to peace, justice, and adherence to international law despite the escalating situation.
