Democracy for the Citizen Party (DCP) party leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made strident political statements that the opposition is confident of winning the 2027 General Election by a margin of 5 million votes against President Ruto.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kameme TV on Monday, April 20, 2026, Gachagua has said that this would result in no further chance of election rigging because, according to him, the political tide has already turned in favour of the opposition before the polls.
“It will not be a situation where there is rigging of the election in 2027, since the percentage that we are going to beat William Ruto with will be very high. We will overpower William Ruto by 5 million votes, and if we overpower him with this kind of vote, he will have nothing to do,” Gachagua said.
Audit of the voter register
Gachagua also shifted his focus to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) by requesting the electoral commission to involve political actors in deliberations regarding the quality of the voter register.
“And I would like to inform the IEBC that they are Kenyans as well and that we have to sit and negotiate over the voter register audit of the current electoral roll,” Gachagua added.
Gachagua expressed worries about the claim of discrepancies in voter registration data, stating that there are instances where there are mismatches between voter registration in polling stations and the ones they had initially registered.
In his remarks, discrepancies of this kind should be dealt with as soon as possible to rebuild the confidence of the people in the electoral process and to make sure that all votes in the next general election are counted properly.
Gachagua also made a request to the Kenyan electorate to be personally responsible by ensuring that they were registered by the IEBC before the elections.
He encouraged people to check their polling points and make sure that their particulars are properly registered, lest they be disenfranchised or be confused on Election Day.
