Nairobi Senator and embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has challenged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to provide evidence backing allegations that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is funding the Linda Mwananchi political camp.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM on Thursday, April 30, 2026, Sifuna dismissed Murkomen’s claims and questioned why the government has not produced any proof if indeed such financial dealings exist.
“You heard Murkomen saying that we as politicians are under 24 hours’ surveillance, that Murkomen knows when I sleep and who I sleep with. So he surely must see me receiving money from Uhuru. Why can’t he show the country Uhuru Kenyatta and Edwin Sifuna exchanging money?” Sifuna posed.
His remarks come amid growing political tensions over the Linda Mwananchi movement, with leaders allied to the camp facing accusations of receiving backing from influential political figures.
Sifuna, however, maintained that such claims are baseless and politically motivated.
The Nairobi Senator also opened up on internal dynamics within ODM, drawing comparisons between the leadership style of party leader Raila Odinga and that of Oburu Oginga, whom he said operates differently.
“Raila Odinga was something else; we didn’t expect that Oburu would be like Raila Odinga. He actually gets upset when we say, ‘By the way, Baba would have done this.’ Sisi tuliharibiwa na Baba because he had a style of doing things,” Sifuna said.
He praised Raila’s consultative leadership, noting that many within ODM had grown accustomed to a style built on wide consultation and clear communication.
“Baba used to consult widely, and he used to explain things. I have nothing but respect for Dr Oburu, but he has a different way of doing things. We don’t begrudge him; we were just used to something else,” he added.
Sifuna further stressed that his focus remains on the future of ODM rather than personal political interests.
“The biggest interest is not for Sifuna to be SG, but for the party to progress,” he stated. “I believe that ODM is one of Raila’s big legacies as a person who believed in multiparty democracy and actually fought for it.
He believed that political parties need to be strengthened; they need to be perpetual, the party needs to survive for all of us.”
His comments are likely to reignite debate over ODM’s internal leadership direction, while also placing fresh pressure on Murkomen to substantiate the serious claims he has made against opposition figures.
