President Ruto, Kalonzo condole with former Governor Kiraitu Murungi after daughter’s death

President William Ruto has led leaders across the political divide in mourning the death of Anita Kendi Murungi, the daughter of former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi.

In a message of condolence, Ruto described the death of Anita as a heartbreaking loss, saying her passing had left an immeasurable void.

“The loss of a child, especially one so young, bright, and full of promise, is a profound tragedy that leaves an immeasurable void,” President Ruto said.

“May they find strength in the support of family, friends, and all those mourning with them,” he added.

The family is yet to reveal the cause of death.

On his part, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also condoled with the family, saying he had learnt of Anita’s death with deep sorrow.

Gachagua, in a joint message with his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, described Kiraitu as a respected elder and expressed sympathy to the family for the painful loss.

“Mheeshimiwa Kiraitu and your family, please accept deepest condolences from Rev. Dorcas Rigathi and I during this difficult moment. We are truly sorry for the loss of your daughter,” Gachagua said.

“We place you and your family in our prayers. May the Lord God give you strength and comfort.”

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said he was deeply saddened by the news, adding that his family and the Azimio coalition stood with the Murungis not as political allies, but as people who genuinely cared for them.

“Mheeshimiwa Kiraitu, I have just learned of the passing of your daughter Anita Kendi, and my heart goes out to you and your family,” Kalonzo said.

“Please know that my family and I, indeed the Wiper Patriotic Front and Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya fraternity, are with you in this moment, not as politicians, but as people who care deeply about you and your family.”

Kalonzo also shared a biblical message of comfort from Psalm 23:4, expressing hope that God would grant the family peace and strength as they grieve.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi also joined in mourning Anita, describing her death as heartbreaking.

Wandayi paid tribute to Kiraitu Murungi’s long public service career, noting his roles as former Energy minister, senator, chairman of the National Oil Corporation of Kenya board and a veteran of the second liberation struggle.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, I extend my sincere condolences to Hon. Kiraitu Murungi, Mama Priscilla Murungi, family and friends during this moment of profound grief,” Wandayi said.

“Losing a child is an immeasurable pain, and we pray that God grants the family strength, comfort and peace as they mourn Anita’s untimely passing.”
