President William Ruto has arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, to attend the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum, where global leaders are expected to discuss sustainable urban development and affordable housing solutions.
In a statement shared after his arrival, Ruto said the forum provides an important opportunity for countries to strengthen partnerships and explore practical solutions aimed at improving urban living.

“Arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum,” Ruto said.“This meeting is a vital platform for advancing partnerships and practical solutions for sustainable urban development.”The President said Kenya’s invitation to the high-level global meeting was a recognition of the country’s efforts in affordable housing and sustainable urban development.
He noted that Kenya’s participation reflects the government’s commitment to building inclusive urban centres that create opportunities for citizens.
“Our invitation, in recognition of Kenya’s leadership in affordable housing and sustainable urban development, is a testament to our commitment to building inclusive cities that expand opportunity and dignity for all Kenyans,” he said.
The World Urban Forum brings together heads of state, policymakers, urban planners, development partners and private sector players to discuss challenges facing cities and emerging urban populations.
On arrival in Baku, Ruto and First Lady Rachel were received by Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defence Industry Vuqar Mustafayev and the country’s Ambassador to Kenya Sultan Hajiyev.

State House said the President will use the sidelines of the World Urban Forum to hold bilateral engagements with Heads of State and investors aimed at strengthening cooperation in energy, ICT and infrastructure development.

The talks are also expected to focus on expanding market access for Kenyan agricultural exports.Among the key engagements lined up is a bilateral meeting between Ruto and Ilham Aliyev aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Kenya and Azerbaijan.
