“If You Feel Ruto Is Incapable of Leadership, Why Don’t You Wait for 2027?” – UDA SG Hassan Omar

By Andrew Kariuki

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Hassan Omar has defended President William Ruto amid growing anti-government protests and criticism over the rising cost of living and fuel prices.

Speaking on Tuesday, Hassan Omar urged Kenyans opposed to President Ruto’s leadership to wait for the 2027 General Election instead of engaging in what he described as actions that could destabilize the country.

“We have gotten to that point in our lives where we must say enough is enough. You are destroying the country throughout. What has Ruto done to you that is so bad? If you sincerely feel he is incapable of leadership, why don’t you wait for 2027 and exercise your Constitutional right,” Omar stated.

His remarks come at a time when the country has witnessed widespread demonstrations and transport disruptions triggered by the recent fuel price hikes announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

The protests saw matatu operators, boda boda riders and motorists stage demonstrations across several parts of the country, with some roads blocked and businesses disrupted.

Omar’s comments are likely to spark mixed reactions online, especially among Kenyans angered by the increasing cost of fuel, electricity and basic commodities.

The UDA Secretary General, however, maintained that political dissatisfaction should be addressed through constitutional and democratic means rather than destruction of property or nationwide unrest.

His statement also comes as pressure continues mounting on the government to introduce measures aimed at cushioning Kenyans from the current economic strain.
