Wanted Suspect in Nakuru Child Disappearance: DCI Issues Public Appeal

By Bonface Mulyungi

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a manhunt for a suspect linked to the disappearance of a four‑year‑old child in Nakuru County. The child was reported missing at Mwariki Police Station on June 11, 2026, sparking urgent investigations and a desperate search by the family.

Ransom Attempt Deepens Family’s Anguish

According to investigators, the suspect compounded the family’s distress by attempting to negotiate a ransom for the child’s release. Detectives from the Anti‑Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit (AHTCPU), working alongside the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and officers from Mwariki Police Station, swiftly followed intelligence leads to track the suspect.

Narrow Escape in Rongai

The suspect was trailed to a plot in the Quarry area of Rongai. However, upon realizing detectives were closing in, he fled into nearby slums and has remained at large since. A search of the room where he had spent the night uncovered personal belongings, a mobile phone, and a mother‑and‑child clinic booklet bearing the details of another minor from Nakuru County. This discovery has raised further questions about the suspect’s activities and possible involvement in other cases.

Public Appeal for Information

The DCI is appealing to members of the public to assist in locating the suspect. Anyone with information that may aid in his arrest or help establish his whereabouts is urged to report to the nearest police station or share tips anonymously through #FichuaKwaDCI.
