General Service Unit (GSU) secured their place in the quarter-finals of the Kenya Volleyball Federation league playoffs at Nyayo Stadium after a commanding 3-0 victory over Administration Police (AP) in their final regular-season match.
The straight-sets win confirmed GSU’s progression to the knockout stage while ending AP’s playoff hopes.
AP finished 10th in the standings, falling short of the top eight positions required to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Speaking after the match, GSU assistant coach Danson Tali expressed confidence ahead of the knockout phase, praising his players for their performance and mentality.
“We are prepared for the knockout stage. The players showed great reception and maintained good morale throughout the match. This win is a message to the other teams that we are here to fight for the title,” said Tali.
AP head coach Francis Kalama admitted his side failed to deliver despite preparing well for the encounter.
“The performance was not good despite our preparations. GSU is a big team and some of our players were intimidated by facing the defending champions,” Kalama said.
Despite the disappointment of missing out on the playoffs, Kalama remained grateful for his team’s efforts throughout the season.
“We are thankful because we have come a long way. We appreciate finishing the league in this position despite the challenges we faced,” he added.
GSU will now turn their attention to the quarter-finals as they continue their pursuit of another league title, while AP bring their campaign to a close after narrowly missing out on a place in the knockout rounds.
