Former Nairobi governor has been charm offensive against President Uhuru Kenyatta, and the so called deep state. Yesterday’s revelations however, has pricked the healing wound of the 2017 Post-election violence. – By Gerald Gekara.
While attending to a political meeting in Dagoretti, Mike Sonko made audatious claims that himself and a host of other politicians including CS Karanja Kibicho went and bought second hand vehicles to fuel hate against ODM.
“We (Sonko and Kibicho sic.) branded t-shirts with ODM slogans and then we bought second-hand vehicles and burnt them so that people would say it’s ODM. It was the deep state and the system,” he said.
Now Karanja Kibicho is rumoured to be on his way to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to record a statement on the same.
The claims have since attracted backlash against the governor, who was trying to convey a message that the so called deep state was fabricating violence against those opposing the government.
The disputed 2017 elections saw ODM riot over claims of widespread rigging and malpractices. The latter saw Raila Odinga being sworn in by his supporters as the ‘people’s president’, kickstarting cat and mouse games between protesters and the police.
Governor Mike Sonko could as well be on his way to jail over the claims, owing to the government’s committment to restore peace and co-existence among Kenyans.
