Warunge Killings– suspect skips court over pending mental exam

Lawrence Simon Warunge, a prime suspect in the murder of his family members in Kiambu County, skipped his day in court today as the police asked for more time to finish their investigations. – By John Mutiso

Her girlfriend, Sarah Muthoni appeared in court after she was declared fit to stand trial.

During the 14-day period, the suspects were to undergo mental assessment where the prosecution was also to rely on DNA tests and postmortem results to build on their case against the two.

According to the police, Warunge is a second-year Mt. Kenya University Bachelor of Business in IT student and the eldest son in the family,he confessed to killing his parents, two brothers and a mason.

The 22-year-old, who was arrested alongside Muthoni on Friday night after being on the run for days, told detectives probing the brutal murder of the five that he drew inspiration from a film.

The suspect also added that two crime and murder novels also gave him ideas on how to execute the murders. Warunge also told police that his girlfriend, Muthoni, purchased the knives he used for the bizarre killings.

The five family members were brutally murdered by unknown assailants at their home in Kagongo Karura village in Kiambu County.

The killers raided the home of Njoroge Warunge and hacked him to death before turning their weapons on the wife, his two children and a nephew. The man’s body was found lying outside the house within the compound while the rest were found murdered inside the house on Wednesday 6,2021 morning.

On Monday 11, the body of the family’s casual laborer was found on a nearby building site with injuries.
