While addressing the National Assembly, Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i said the possession of illegal firearms contributes to the recent spike in inter-communal warfare in Marsabit.

The CS also assured the residents that the exercise is part of a long-term vision for peace and security in the region.

Matiangi also confirmed that police officers were on the trail of politicians who have allegedly fueled the tribal animosity, and promising to fund the area police stations with new equipment.

“Plans are underway to operationalize the recommended police stations and posts in the vast county. The officers will also be provided with adequate modern equipment, including armored vehicles, dog units, and even drones,” he said.

The Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security had convened to deliberate on increased insecurity in Marsabit county.
