Ruto Hustles the coast amid plans to lock out Outsider candidates

Deputy President William Ruto pitched camp at the Coast, pushing for his ‘Wheelbarrow and Hustler Narrative’ amid plans to launch a new political party for the region. – By Ramadhan Kambi

Dr Ruto toured Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale counties with a team of his allies who range from Jubilee and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rebels led by Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa.

In Kilifi, the DP met with youths in Kilifi town and then went to Watamu for another meeting with the youths.

In Kilifi, Dr Ruto was accompanied the hosts Owen Baya(Kilifi North MP)  and Aisha Jumwa(Malindi).

Mr Baya and Ms Jumwa are both ODM members who rebeld against the party to join DP s Tanga Tanga team and have since then been close allies of the DP. Others who attendewd the meetings included Kaloleni MP Paul Katana and his Kinango counterpart Benjamin Tayari (Both also ODM Rebels).

“You must as a region make tough decisions and desist from the cheats by Mzee wa Kitendawili. Kilifi and Coast region has to change and the change has to start now,” DP Ruto said.

The DP maintained that his zeal to donate wheelbarrows to the youths was meant to empower then and shift from the traditionally habit of depending on politicians for handouts.

“I will continue to help the youths with these wheelbarrows and other empowerment programs to ensure that these youths become self-dependence. It is very unfortunate that some of these leaders have despised these efforts without offering solutions,” he said in Kilifi.

Mr Baya and Ms Jumwa said they will continue to embrace the DP because he is the only person with the interests of the region at heart, unlike ODM leader Raila Odinga whom they said had supported for many years but with nothing to show for their loyalty.

Recently Ms JUmwa and Mr Baya suffered a big setback after their efforts to relaunch Coast based political party Kadu Asili hit a snag after party owners wrote to the registrar of political parties’ disassociating with them.

Ms Jumwa had started to market the party as tool that the region would use in the 2022 General Election. However after their efforts failed, they embraced UDA political party which is associated with the Deputy President William Ruto.
