A Machakos court has sentenced Stephen Ngila for 30 years in jail after finding him guilty of chopping off his wife Jackline Mwende’s hands on July 25th, 2016 in Kathama, Machakos County. – By John Mutiso.
The 34-year-old Ngila was charged for attempted murder after the July attack in Machakos Town where he had accused Mwende of being barren before doing the inhuman act.
Ms Mwende had told the media that her husband had attacked her because she had reportedly failed to bear him children.
This was despite several tests which showed that it was her husband who had reproductive issues but he had severally refused to appear for treatment that had been prescribed.
In 2016, Mwende who had been married to Ngila for two years, had her hands slashed with a machete at the wrist by her husband following a domestic squabble.
Mwende who also suffered deep cuts on her head inflicted by the spouse, said he was aggrieved by their childlessness.
Mr. Ngila who appeared before Machakos Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Brenda Bartoo on Tuesday morning was charged with attempted murder of his wife where he was sentenced for 30 years in prison.
However, Mr Ngila has 14-days to appeal the ruling.
