Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala Released On Sh2.5 Million Bond

Kakamega Court has released Senator Cleophas Malala on a bond of Sh2.5 million grant with surety in Matungu by-election chaos case. – By John Mutiso.

The Senator who was presented before Magistrate Dophina Alego has been charged with three counts of felony, assault, causing injury to an IEBC officer, robbery with violence and destroying property at Munami Primary School polling station during Matungu by-election.

Malala had surrendered to the police on Monday after DPP Noordin Haji directed the DCI to arrest and interrogate him in connection with the violence.

He was also captured on video at a polling station confronting ODM leaders including Homabay Woman representative Gladys Wanga at Bulimbo Primary School tallying centre.

Malala’s bodyguard who was also arrested for alleged misuse of a firearm after he fired in the air to disperse a crowd that wanted to set his boss’s car ablaze was released on a bond worth Sh200,000.
