Counties To Receive 500 Jua kali ICU Beds

The Ministry of Interior has unveiled the first batch of 170 locally made ICU beds to be dispatched to counties, to fight the bed shortage in the country. – By Gerald Gekara.

The beds were unveiled at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park, marking the start of a long lasting partnership between the government and local artisans to reduce the cost of medical facilities.

Out of the 500 jua kali ICU beds procured from three local artisans, 170 are ready for use, Principal Secretary Dr. Karanja Kibicho said the beds will be distributed to 14 counties with an urgent demand.

Other counties will share out the remaining 330, which will be delivered progressively.

The roll out comes at a time when the country is grappling with a shortage in ICU beds.

The third wave has seen hospitals run short of supplies for critical help.
