Drainage works along the project scope of the Lang’ata road overpass are on high gear, as the contractor Centunion upgrades the old system that has since been overwhelmed. – By Gerald Gekara.
As the 2021 long rain season nears, one of the biggest challenges motorists plying along the busy Lang’ata road is the consistent flooding that plagues the Tmall junction, which seats on a shallow valley towards the south of Nairobi.
Vehicles have been submerged, stalled due to damage by flood, and public transport completely cut off leading to high fares, as well as impossible connections that in turn clog the already choked traffic system in Nairobi.
Part of the mandate provided by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is an improvement of the drainage system in place that has been without an upgrade since the road was developed.
However, the Centunion engineers have expressed optimism that once the overpass is complete, motorists would have much less flood and traffic jams to worry about.
The contractor is famed for the construction of three flyovers in Sri Lanka, as a solution to the heavy traffic congestion in the areas of Rajagiriya, Ganemulla and Polgahawela.
The key projects reduced travel time within its locations from staggering hours to just minutes of commute.
The company hopes the construction will improve connections especially access to the Wilson Airport which is located within 2 kilometers of the southern bypass.
