Mama Sarah Anyango Obama, grandmother to the former US President Barack Obama is dead.
Mama Sarah,99, died in Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital in Kisumu county while undergoing treatment.
She was the third wife to Hussein Onyango Obama, the father to Barack Hussein Obama Senior who was Obama’s father.
The late educationist will be remembered for her philanthropy. In 2014, she received the Pioneer Award from the United Nations for the work of an education foundation that she heads, as a part of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day.
The 44th US President had close ties to his grandmother and last visited her at the family in K’Ogello in July 2018.
She openly criticized on those who portrayed Obama as a foreigner during his historic election and successful two term presidency.
