IEBC Denies Sabotaging BBI Process In Counties

Different iterations of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill were circulated to Kenyan county assemblies, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

In a statement released on Thursday, the commission transferred responsibility to the BBI secretariat, saying that it forwarded to counties the same copies of the paper that it got from the BBI promoters.

The commission demanded additional copies of the draft from BBI promoters to send to the counties after completing the verification exercise and deciding that the one million supporters benchmarks have been met.

The BBI promoters sent 57 printed copies of the Bill to the commission on the same day, out of which the commission sent 47 copies to the County Assemblies, according to the IEBC.

The announcement comes despite claims that only 13 Kenyan counties received and debated the correct text.
