Incidents of insecurity in the country have continued to rise. Criminal gangs have continued to cause residents sleepless nights. Kidnappings and abductions have become the order of the day.
A few days ago a 79-year-old man by the name Kennedy Nyabwari was abducted on his way to Kisii by unknown people who demanded Ksh 2 Million from his family.
The old man spoke to the Daily Nation newspaper and revealed details of the traumatic experience.
The old man left his home late in the evening to go see his ailing aunt who was hospitalized in Kisii town.
After reaching Kitale, he failed to get a Matatu that evening and instead opted to spend the night there and leave for the hospital very early in the morning.
He woke up at around 3 and left in search of a Bodaboda to take him to town and book a Matatu.
He stumbled upon one rider who offered to take him to town. However, after reaching the Junction, the rider took a different road.
He told him to use the right road but the Bodaboda insisted on a shortcut.
It was after reaching a dark corner that the Bodaboda was joined by two other men who immediately covered his head with a sack.
They took him to a house and locked him up until 7 pm without water or food or a toilet. He was given food in the evening which he refused.
He tried to take his own life away to avoid getting his family in trouble of raising the 2 Million that the kidnappers were demanding.
By that time, his wife had informed the DCI, and sleuths were sent on a rescue mission. The officers tracked the phone to a house on Kitale-Eldoret highway. Grace Nyakundi, Samwel Makori and Richard Matunda were arrested while the owner of the house managed to escape through the fence. The old man was rescued.
According to the report, the kidnappers at one point threatened to take over to Tanzania and sell his body parts. The old man also revealed that he had been targeted because he was a relative of powerful Kisii Senator Professor Sam Ongeri.
The old man is currently recovering at his home in Kitale.
