Half of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet members could be headed home this February. – By Caleb Mwikya.

Most of the current Cabinet Secretaries are interested in elective positions and this will force them to quit government least six months to elections.

“Apart from the CSs, there are the Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS), most of whom were picked by President Kenyatta after losing their seats in the 2017 elections. Those eyeing political seats must also exit office by February. Of the 35 CASs, about 28 are former politicians.”the Standard newspaper.

Among those who will be expected to quit very critical Ministries is the Cabinet Secretary in charge of the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government programs CS Fred Matiang’i.

He is said to be headed for the position of the presidency if not the Kisii or Nyamira county gubernatorial position according to Nakuru town West Constituency Member of Parliament Honourable Samuel Arama.

Details have emerged that the Justice Marete Njagi ruling made before the 2017 elections saving public servants quitting from their jobs is not applicable by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission since it was only covering individual petitioners.

“That a declaration be and is hereby issued that Section 43(5) of the Elections Act 2011 is unconstitutional and without any legal basis or force ab initio,” Justice Marete ruled.

He added: “That a declaration be and is hereby issued that unless and until nomination, there is no compelling public interest that demands mandatory resignation of a public officer from public office.”
