Ford Kenya, the African National Congress (ANC), and the Wiper parties have appealed to the Registrar of Political Parties to dissolve their links with the National Super Alliance (NASA).
After a closed door meeting on Tuesday, the three principals, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula, and Musalia Mudavadi, signed the letters.
The three published a joint brief following the meeting, declaring that they will now engage other parties as the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).
Buntanyasi Sakwa, a Nambale MP, read out the three parties’ unified statement, in which they declared that they were leaving NASA owing to a lack of confidence.
According to Kalonzo, the OKA is now working on a manifesto, which will be released soon. It will also reveal the formula for selecting the coalition’s flag-bearer.
The DP’s supporters have previously argued that the bottom-up dialogue has resulted in the country’s first economic-focused discussions, indicating a much-needed shift away from traditional politics.
Meanwhile, Musalia Mudavadi of the African National Congress (ANC) recommended Kenyans to focus on issues that directly touch them, such as the rising public debt and how to address it, rather than a tug-of-war over economic models.
