The East African Community (EAC) has advocated for equal worldwide access to COVID-19 vaccinations as well as financing to help underdeveloped countries produce vaccines.
According to a statement released Friday by the EAC headquarters in Tanzania’s northern city of Arusha, the demand was made on the sidelines of high-level talks at the 76th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Mathuki supports the EAC leaders’ call to waive intellectual property rights to allow other nations, particularly low- and middle-income countries, to make COVID-19 vaccines, according to the statement.

“While the world discusses booster shots, access to vaccines is still posing a challenge in Africa. The principles of solidarity and cooperation in securing equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines should be sustained,” the statement read in partsaid
