Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said on Sunday that a deadly blast in Kampala late Saturday appeared to be an act of terrorism.
“It seems to be a terrorist act… The information I have is that 3 people came and left a package in kaveera [plastic bag] which later on exploded,” Museveni said.
He reported one person was killed in the capital blast, however, Uganda Police Chief Political Commissar Asan Kasingye said two individuals were murdered late Saturday.
According to NTV, at least seven persons were hurt. There was no immediate admission of responsibility for the attack.
Officials did not respond to demands for comment right away.
Local media stated that the explosion happened at a restaurant called Digida Pork Joint.
Bomb blasts in the East African country are rare. Kampala suffered a major attack by Somalia’s al Shabaab in 2010 that killed dozens.
The group said it had attacked Uganda as a punishment for its deployment of troops in Somalia.
