Two directors of Purma Holding Limited Mary Wambui Mungai, (right) and Purity Njoki Mungai were today arraigned at Milimani law courts.

The duo have been on the run since failing to appear before court to face charges of tax evasion to the tune of Ksh.2.23 Billion.

They pleaded not guilty to 8 counts of failure to pay taxes.

Anti-corruption Chief Magistrate Felix Kombo directed that the two deposit their travel documents both Kenyan passports and any alien passports they may be held with the court.

They were also ordered not to travel without clearance of the court.

The Director of Immigration will also be served with an order restricting the travel of the two.

On 8th December, the court declined to lift a warrant of arrest issued against the two directors on 6th December 2021.

The two directors through their lawyer had urged the court to lift the warrant because Ms Mary Mungai was on bed rest on the advice of doctors at Kiambu Level Five Hospital and that Ms Purity Mungai was her caregiver.

Yesterday evening the two escaped arrests by officers from the KRA-DCI unit at Weston hotel where they were residing.

Upon searching the hotel premises, the officers found personal belongings of the two including cash, bank cards and car keys; a clear indication that the two were residing at the hotel.
