Study: Vaping Linked To Erectile Dysfunction

A new study revealed that healthy males between the ages of 20 and 65 who vaped nicotine daily were more than twice as likely to report experiencing erectile dysfunction, or ED, as those who did not vape.

This link was seen even in men who had no other health issues or habits linked to sexual dysfunction, such as smoking, which is a known contributor to erectile dysfunction.

Dr Omar El Shahawy, an assistant professor in the Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drug Use division of New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine, said, “Our research accounted for the cigarette smoking history of participants, including those who were never cigarette smokers, to begin with.”

“It’s probable that everyday e-cigarette vaping, regardless of smoking history, is linked to an increased risk of erectile dysfunction,” he said.

Vaping can help you quit smoking tobacco cigarettes. For that reason, the US Food and Drug Administration is assessing and approving various e-cigarette brands, asking producers to show statistics on how their products achieve that outcome.

However, if vaping nicotine replaces smoking as a daily habit, the risk of ED and other health problems rises.

This is especially troubling given the teen vaping epidemic in the United States, where more than 2 million middle- and high-school students report they use e-cigarettes, according to a national study released by the FDA and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in September.

According to the report, 500,000 young people say they vape on a regular basis.

According to the survey, more than three-quarters of youngsters favored flavored e-cigarettes, particularly fruit, candy, mint, and menthol flavors.
