Five bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of a four-story Sunstar Hotel in Gatanga, Murang’a County, three more persons are still missing.
The death toll has now risen to six as one of the patients died in hospital while receiving treatment.
James Macharia, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Infrastructure, visited the area on Sunday morning and said he expects the activities to be completed by the end of the day.
The adjacent structure, which was also under construction, has been condemned and will be razed, according to Macharia.
"The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has already begun the process of locating all of the experts involved at both the national and county levels," the CS stated.
The CS also stated that over 4,000 structures across the country have been designated as unsafe, and he has requested the National Building Inspectorate to expedite their assessment.
