Tanzania Railway Corporation (TRC) stated a passenger train derailed in Pangani district in Tanga region, killing a seven-year-old kid and injuring five others.
The train, which was heading from Arusha to Dar es Salaam with 14 carriages carrying 700 passengers, derailed between Mkalamo and Mvave in the early hours of Sunday, January 16, 2022.
“A passenger train with engine number 9022 crashed, killing Hassan Lugano, a seven-year-old kid, and wounding five others.”
TRC said in a statement that three of the five injured are men and two are women.
According to the statement, the train left Arusha on Saturday afternoon towards Dar es Salaam before colliding and overturning.
The injured have been transferred to Mkalamo Dispensary for treatment and are doing fine so far as TRC works to resume normal operations.
TRC will initiate an inquiry to determine the cause of the accident, according to the statement.
