2.5 Million Kenyans Suffer Dry Spell

After two seasons of drought, at least 2.5 million Kenyans are in desperate need of humanitarian food, with the government promising that no one will go hungry.

Margaret Kobia, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Gender, Social Protection, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL), stated they are working with development partners, embassies, and other like-minded persons to come up with the essential solutions to resolve the country’s food crisis.

Prof Kobia said that roughly 23 counties are severely affected by hunger, but that measures have been put in place to alleviate the situation.

Prof Kobia was speaking after kicking off the delivery of 340 tons of food supplies from the Kuwait government in Thika town today.

Kuwait’s ambassador to Kenya, Qusai AL Farhan, said the two nations have a close bond and that they will provide more support if necessary.

He stated that the food will be provided to 6,300 individuals in ASALs during a two-month period.

“The ties between the two countries are excessively strong. Kuwait “did not hesitate to help when President Uhuru Kenyatta requested for food contributions to help minimize the effects of drought,” he said.

Rice, cooking oil, maize, sugar, and flour are among the foods supplied.
