Governor Anyang Nyong’o of Kisumu has offered his county workers two weeks off to mobilize unregistered residents to register as voters.

Those who have not come up with a list of new registered voters, according to the first-term governor, will not be permitted back into the office on February 6th.

He stated the county needed to register more new voters because Kisumu had just 5, 529 new voters registered by the seventh day of the mass voter registration drive, compared to a target of 130, 106.

“Those who will have failed to carry with them a list of newly registered voters, will not be allowed back in the office because we have already furnished them with those who have attained the age of 18 but are yet to register as voters,” said Prof Nyong’o during the Monday morning county staff meeting at Citam Kisumu.

The county executive also stated that if he fails to rally people, he will be hesitant to run for re-election.

There are fears that many services may be disrupted during this time.

However despite Mr Nyong’o’s assurances that basic services such as banking, housekeeping, and firefighting will continue.

The ODM governor directed his cabinet members, chief officers, and all other county personnel to visit their rural districts and guarantee that all unregistered youngsters were registered to vote.
