Education CS Prof George Magoha has been urged to intervene and issue a circular stopping all school heads to retain all form four students in their schools even though they have fee balances to clear.
Kaloleni leaders led by area MP Paul Katana said there were so many cases of some school principals sending students home yet they are supposed to prepare before sitting for their final exams irrespective of school fees balances.
“It is very unfortunate and we are concerned that the majority of the 2022 KCSE candidates are at home because of fee balances yet they are supposed to be busy preparing for their final exams,” he said.
The MP spoke at Ndatani primary school during the ground breaking of the two classrooms and an administration block. He said because of so many challenges, majority of the parents he said cannot pay school fees because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The lawmaker said there was need to have an urgent education stakeholder meeting to deliberate the problems that we are facing in schools.
“Getting maximum and good performance might prove to be a challenge if school heads persistently send these students home to look for fees,” he said.
Mwana Mwinga ward MCA Pascal Makanga said the most affected schools is Mnazi Mumwenga secondary school, Tsangatsini Secondary school and Mariakani secondary school.
Mr Makanga urged the media to do thorough investigation in many schools so that they can expose the problem facing the students.
Kilifi county Executive Member of Devolution Professor Gabriel Katana said its high time school Board of Management (BOG) and the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) to chip in and handle the matter amicably.
Katana said the more the teachers keep sending students back home the more students are preparing to fail because the ones at school are not being taught neither the ones at home too are not benefiting thus at the end of the day all will fail.
