President Uhuru Kenyatta has secured yet another continental seat for Kenya, in matters to do with climate.

Kenya has taken over the Chairmanship of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC) from South Africa.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said Kenya was most qualified for the post because it had been “a prominent voice on issues of climate change in Africa” in a virtual congratulations message.

Prior to this year’s UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt, the South African leader emphasized the significance of Africa speaking with one voice by having a single perspective.

Due to the high expense of combating climate change, Africa has long been thought to be the most resistant.

If nothing is done, Ramaphosa stated, African countries’ coffers will suffer the most.

In reality, according to Ramaphosa, African countries are already bearing the brunt of climate change costs.
