Four police officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)- Langata have been arrested for abducting a business man and stealing Sh300,000 from him.
Anthony Muvaka, Tom Omondi, Stephen Wambua and Kennedy Omondi were arrested by Serious Crime detectives after their victim made a report at DCI headquarters.
According to the DCI, the incident took place last Sunday February 6, 2022 at Nextgen Mall when the businessman requested for a taxi by the roadside.
“The man who had requested for a taxi by the roadside along Mombasa Road, was accosted by the officers before being forcefully bundled in a waiting Subaru, that had five occupants,” the DCI said.
Kinoti said whilst in the vehicle, the in-charge Corporal Tom Otieno forcefully transferred Sh40,000 from the victim’s M-pesa account to his Mpesa account.
The DCI explained that following this, they proceeded to the man’s apartment where they grabbed some Sh272,000 before dumping him at Choma Zone, along Mombasa Road.
“The following day, the victim went to Akira police station to make his report, only to find the vehicle he had been bundled into parked at the station,” he said.
The DCI said he immediately rushed to DCI headquarters where he reported the incident at the Serious Crimes unit.
All the four officers who were involved have since been arrested and identified positively by the victim, in an identification parade conducted at the DCI headquarters.
The agency urged those who may have been robbed by officers to report at the Serious Crimes Unit headquarters for action.
“Consequently, we caution any police officers on the wrong side of the law, that stern and prompt action shall be taken against them, in strict fidelity to the law regardless of the service they are from.”
The suspects are in police custody facing Robbery with Violence charges, contrary to Section 296 (2) of the Penal Code.
