A unique program that will see students benefit from technical courses in has been launched.
The devovled government, Startup African and Pwani University have partnered and With Kilifi county Vaccassion Training Cetres who have come up with innovation and entrepreneurship programmes that’s aimed at creating job opportunities to the youths graduating from the training centers. .
Kilifi county Executive Member incharge of Education and ICT Rachael Musyoki said they signed an MOU with Startup Africa to train VTCs students entrepreneurship skills as a path towards teaching them being job creators veseve being job seekers.
Speaking at Pwani University during the Kilifi County VTCs Innovation Olimpia,Ms Musyoki said StartUp Africa is a premier youth entrepreneurship and innovation organization in Africa supporting youth to be the next job creators through entrepreneurship.
She said through such activities,trains are given time to showcase their ability of innovation and through such Kilifi county was given a chance by Start up Africa to programme an innovation hub.
The VTCs have done initial activities to the program already; a total of 14 VCTs produced a 31 team in the concept formation and 15 teams from the 10VTCs made it for the pitch olympia competition today.
She said they will work closely with the trade department through the Mbegu fund so that they can further what they are going to present to us today.
Startup Africa CEO Erustus Mongare said they engage youth in their expertise of entrepreneurship and innovation and they have a pyrab program which they have tested since 2013 when they started with secondary students then moved to VTCs programmes.
Mr Mongare said VTCs is the way to go, adding that other developed countries like China have invested heavily inVTCs .
He said they have over 850 highschools participating across Kenya and the ministry of education has embraced the program and they have seen some verry improved programs from the schools.
He said today they have been able to see some innovation shown by VTCs students who worked for it for the last five months and through their vocational training skills and innovations with a clear financial support are able to go out and start a job.
This is the first country to embrace this program and urged the national and county government to support the youth through finance so that they can realise their dream.
Pwani University dean of students Ronald Juma said the institution will provide technical expertise through Pwani University entrepreneurship and innovation hub.
Mr Juma said the drivers of change of economy will be the way of entrepreneurship and innovation in this country in future.
As an institution they are also planning to start a VTC at Pwani University which is much bigger that the VTCs to try and bring the diploma and certificate students equipped with skills so that they can immediately use them so that they can get a job.
He said their some organization out their which are willing to support such innovative adding that the institution support innovation and entrepreneurship
