A 32-year-old lady is under investigation for allegedly killing her two children in the Mwiyala neighborhood of Kakamega.Â
According to Charles Akhonya, a security guard on duty at the time of the event, Pherine Maero, a nurse, is accused of committing the murder before phoning her husband to pick up the bodies of the youngsters.
She is said to have poisoned the children, aged 7 and 9 before attempting suicide by stabbing her neck with a knife.
Residents said they awakened Sunday morning to the news, when word of the murder spread.
The mother was rushed to a nearby hospital while in critical condition.
She is under protective custody at the hospital, and will be arraigned for murder once she recovers.
