Kilifu Governor Amazon Kingi has said that his administration has worked hard to identify opportunities for women in the county.
“We have diligently worked on harnessing the full potential of our women in Kilifi County by giving them equal opportunities in employment and business by promoting their entrepreneurial skills through special programs like the Mbegu Fund and empowering them to shun retrogressive cultures and traditions which limit their potential in development matters,” he said.
The County boss further said that his government had taken stringent measures to curb undermining vices like teenage pregnancies and Gender-Based Violence.
“We have given the women a safe haven to freely express themselves and exploit their potential. I am happy to report that we have managed to reduce teenage pregnancy cases from 29 percent in 2018, to 14 percent in 2022,” he said.
Governor Kingi who spoke during international women’s day said he will continue to work with state and non-state actors to ensure our girls are protected from these vices, and provide our women with a platform to equally participate in nation-building.
