Sixteen boda boda riders detained on Monday for allegedly abusing a female driver will be held in detention until the court rules on Thursday.
The said assault occured on 4th March 2022 at around 5:30pm within Limuru and Prof Wangari Mathai road Junction where the lady, a diplomat, was assaulted by irate bodaboda riders.
Milimani law courts magistrate shikwe has ordered the 16 suspects accused of assaulting the woman sexually to be detained at Gigiri police station until tomorrow.
The 16 will be detained until a ruling on a miscellaneous application by the state to detain them for 20 days will be heard.
The accused persons strongly objected to the 20 days detention stating that the days are too many.
The prosecution intents to charge the 16 suspects with robbery with violence which is a capital offense.
The investigation officer in the matter stated that the reduction of the 20 days will be prejudicial to the state since the matter carries public interest and a corroborative evidence in the case is paramount.
Hence requesting the court to retain the 20 days detention prayer.
