Azimio la Umoja Presidential candidate Raila Odinga who departed to the United Kingdom (UK) for a week-long tour is set to conclude his tour today with an address to Kenyans living in the UK at the Holiday Inn, Kensington.
The former Prime Minister Raila Odinga flew to the UK on Sunday night just a day after he was crowned Azimio la Umoja presidential flagbearer for a five-day tour of London and was received by Kenya’s envoy to the UK Manoah Esipisu.
On Tuesday, Raila discussed matters of the economy during his meeting with leaders from the House of Commons in the UK.
On Wednesday, March 16, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader delivered his address to the Commonwealth Secretariat titled “The Road to Peaceful Elections in Kenya”.
Raila also addressed the Chatham house on Wednesday with his speech touching on myriad of issues from politics to his manifesto ahead of the August 9, polls.
He also headed to Emirates Stadium where he witnessed his team, Arsenal, being beaten by Liverpool 2-0.
On Thursday, he also held talks with Arch Bishop of Canterbury Justin Welby at Lambeth Palace where he said that institutions responsible for elections should ensure free, fair and transparent elections in order to ensure a smooth transition.
“The Kenyan people are coming together. I’m determined to see a more united, peaceful, and loving Nation as our country embarks on the electioneering period,” Odinga stated.
The two also shared tea and the Archbishop prayed for peace and unity in Kenya during the coming August elections.
On his part, Rev. Welby lauded Raila’s commitment to maintain peace and accept the outcome of the poll and seek redress in a court should any issues arise in the process.
Odinga also had a chance to attend a noon Eucharist service conducted by the Archbishop at the Lambeth Palace Chapel where he partook Holy Communion.
Raila is accompanied by COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth among others.
