According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), 800,000 registered voters across 47 counties have sought to be relocated to various voting centers.

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati indicated that preparations for the General Elections are progressing with the commission planning to clean up the register in April.

On Thursday, Chebukati and IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan informed the Senate Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs that the commission received 800,000 requests from voters during the increased voter registration period, which took place in two parts between October 2021 and February 2022.

In addition, the commission is adding the data of 2,554,447 new voters to their voter registration database, which already has over 19 million registered voters.

The IEBC will next conduct a clean-up of the registry, which will include an audit, before making the document available to Kenyans for examination in April and May.

In late 2021, the IEBC announced that Kenyans in America as well as those living in the United Kingdom, Canada, South Sudan, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates will participate in the August 9 General Election.

This brings the tally of external voting countries to 11 since Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Africa participated in the last election in 2017.
