A Kenyan man accused of invading an expensive home in Leesburg last November and murdering the man inside, has said he was God on a mission to destroy the Devil.Â
Judge Matthew P. Snow concluded at a preliminary hearing that prosecutors have probable cause to pursue a grand jury indictment against Melvin Wasike, 22, of Fairfax.
On Nov. 14, a pre-dawn stabbing attack at the couple’s house on Newton Place in the Barclay Woods development outside Leesburg murdered Robert Fadely, 46, and injured his fiancee, Laura Munoz.
According to court testimony, Wasike had never met or communicated with Fadely.
Wasike went to the neighborhood from his house in Fairfax because he heard sounds and thought his father’s girlfriend resided there, according to Waskike’s defense attorney Robert Whitestone.
Whitestone claimed his client was schizophrenic and believed he was on a mission to find out who was behind the voices he was hearing.
Prosecutors, on the other hand, showed home security camera footage of Wasike repeatedly trying to enter the property the day before the attack.
Wasike was pulled over and advised to leave by a Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputy who was summoned to investigate. According to the deputy, Fadley refused to bring charges if Wasike did not return.
According to a video presented in court, the same security cameras captured Wasike kicking through the door early the next morning.
As he kicked at the door, Wasike appeared to drop and then pick up a huge knife.
A butcher knife was used to stab Fadely and Munoz, according to authorities. According to evidence, Munoz was hurt while attempting to fight Wasike off.
She was in court Thursday with family and supporters to see the hearing after surviving the attack.
