Vandalism of electrical transformers and tampering with power meters have been warned against by the public.
People who vandalize transformers, according to the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Energy, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa, jeopardizes the lives of those who are admitted to hospitals, particularly patients in the intensive care unit and infants in incubators.
Those caught vandalizing electricity equipment, he said, will be prosecuted because the government spends a lot of money on procuring and installing the equipment.
At the same time, the PS asked industrialists and all others who benefit from the power supply to pay their bills on time because the government spends a huge amount of money to ensure that everyone has enough power.
In his remarks, Government Spokesperson Col. (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna stated that the government has succeeded in lowering the cost of electricity, which he claims has made the country more appealing to investors.
“Over the previous eight years, the government has linked 8.7 million households to electricity in order to improve people’s well-being and help them reach their full potential,” Oguna added.
He expressed optimism that in the next 5 to 10 years, every household in the country will be connected to the power grid since electricity is critical to attaining Vision 2030.
