Inside UDA’s Ksh. 500M Nomination Budget

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is reportedly planning to spend over Ksh500 million on a one-day nomination exercise on April 14.

The party will spend slightly more than half a billion dollars, according to Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyoit, to facilitate the nomination process.

The party primaries for governor and senator will be held in 12 counties and 19 counties, respectively.

Cheruyoit explained to KTN News on Tuesday, April 5 that the over Ksh500 million budget will cover logistics such as remunerating nomination officers, printing ballot papers, and transporting ballot materials to different polling stations.

In addition to the UDA nominations, 128 MP hopefuls will compete for the party’s ticket.

“The National Elections Board (NEB) has contracted reputable election managers who are currently undergoing treatment, and also recruitment of polling clerks has commenced,” stated the party’s National Elections Board chairperson, Anthony Mwaura.

“The nominations will be held in all electoral areas where there is more than one paid up candidate, and other forms of nominations like consensus have not been applied.”

Rigathi Gachagua, a Mathira MP, defended the figure, claiming that the party requires a lot of resources due to its widespread popularity.

“Because UDA is such a popular party, the ticket is highly coveted and competitive,” Rigathi added.

Over 100,000 job openings were announced by UDA in advance of the exercise. In each county, the party plans to recruit 128 presiding officers, 100,000 polling clerks, and returning officers.

“This election will be conducted by 47 returning officers, 128 presiding officers, and 100,000 polling clerks. Hustlers are encouraged to apply through the UDA.ke party portal “Mwaura made a remark.
