A few hours after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) pronounced the phrase ‘sipangwingwi’ as one of hate speech words, Ruto released a remix to popular hit, ‘hatupangwingwi’.
On Friday afternoon, DP Ruto took to Twitter to share a three-minute remix of the now-famous “Sipangwingwi” song, which features the song’s original composer and Gengetone artiste Exray.
The NCIC on Friday categorized the phrase “sipangwingwi” as one of the terms with components that could inspire incitement over alleged hate speech.
Here is the list of the hate speech terms that were listed by NCIC: Uncircumcised, Fumigation, Eliminate, Kill, Kaffir, Madoa doa, Chunga Kura, Kama noma noma, Kwekwe, Mende, Hatupangwingwi, Operation Linda kura, Watu wa kurusha mawe, Watajua hawajui, Wabara waende kwao, Wakuja (Those that come),Uthamaki ni witu, Kimurkeldet (Brown teeth) and Otutu Labatonik (uproot the weed)
