In a Gazette notice dated 4th May, 2022, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has appointed Rose Auma Omamo as a trustee of the NSSF board.

“In exercise of the power conferred by section 6(d) (ii) ofthe National Social Security Fund Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour appoints ROSE AUMA OMAMO to be a Trustee of the National Security Fund Board of Trustees for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 3rd may, 2022,” the Cabinet Secretary for Labour Simon K. Chelugui said in a gazette notice.

This came after the Central Organization of Trade Unions(COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to dismiss officials who have reportedly failed to gazette the appointment of Rose Omamo to the NSSF board.

On Thursday, May 5, Atwoli issued a statement in which he expressed his displeasure with what he called the CS for the Ministry of Labour’s disrespect and defiance.

President Uhuru Kenya had directed Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui to immediately gazette Omamo as COTU’s representative on the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Board of Trustees on May 1.
