The Court has sentenced Teresiah Wanjiku Ndungi, an employee of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation to serve four years in prison.

Wanjiku was convicted of forgery of academic certificates an offence which saw her occupy an office illegally due to her academic disqualifications.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Wanjiku had forged a Diploma in Archives & Records Management which she used to attain employment purporting to have attained the certificate from the Kenya Institute of Management.

Following investigations by EACC, she was arrested and charged with the offences of forgery, uttering a false document, deceiving a public entity and fraudulent acquisition of Kshs 479,021 as salary payable to her based on fake academic qualifications.

EACC submits that the case illustrates the increasing cases of forgery of academic certificates by persons seeking appointment or election to public office.

The court gave her an alternative Ksh 300,000 fine to substitute her jail term.
