Shock As School Children Given Floor Sealant To Drink Instead of Milk

Parents sped towards the RALLY Summer School Program in Juneau, Alaska on Tuesday after their children were given floor sealant instead of milk to drink for breakfast.

According to Juneau School District officials, the sealant was consumed by 12 children and two adults.

The Rally program is for children aged 5 to 12. The incident took place at St’ Eet Shaanáx – Glacier Valley School.

The sealant was consumed by Barry Nydam’s 7-year-old daughter. He expressed surprise and rage.

Rhyan Nydam, his wife, says she received the call from a program administrator around noon, hours after the incident. And, at first, parents thought the milk contained paint thinner rather than sealant.

The sealant was a Hillyard Seal 341 product. According to its safety data sheet, it is “expected to be a low ingestion hazard.”

According to Nydam, the administration removed the cups from the children and called a poison control center before waiting and monitoring the children.

According to Nydam, she was told that no one needed to be hospitalized.

“I can’t believe it took so long to even tell me, you know?” “I wouldn’t have known if I wanted to rush my child to the hospital,” she explained.

When Nydam asked for more information, administrators told her the matter was being investigated. She claims her daughter is fine so far, aside from a stomach ache.

The RALLY program did not respond to KTOO’s requests for comment, but Superintendent Bridget Weiss confirmed the incident was under investigation and that the Juneau Police Department is involved at a previously scheduled Board of Education meeting.

“That is happening as we speak, so we can understand exactly what happened and how it happened.” “Of course, we need to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” she said.
