A Former High Court Judge Robert Mugo Mutitu accused of theft of clients’ money has been released on Ksh 500,000 by a Magistrate.
Mutito appeared before Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo over the theft of Ksh 6.8 million from Jane Wangui.
The former judge did not plead to two charges filed against him by the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji saying he needs time to reach out to his accuser.
Kagendo allowed the former judge’s request and gave him up to July 6, 2022 to good his request.
Defence lawyer Karathe Wandugi said that the matter should have been resolved through the Law Society Of Kenya Disciplinary Committee before Mutito arraignment.
A law partner to the judge, John Njoroge Thiongo was also summoned to appear in court to be charged alongside Mutito.
The two are accused that being agents of Wangui, they stole Sh 6,850,000, the property of the said complainant entrusted to them for the purchase of a parcel of land in Nairobi.
They are alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between April 22 and May 19, 2021.
