A middle aged man was on June 28, 2022 sentenced to serve life imprisonment by Iten Law courts for defiling his seen years old niece.
On June 19,2022, Stephen Kiptoo was charged before the said court with the offence of defilement and inappropriate touching of a minor.
During the hearing of the case prosecutor Mercy Muema told the court that the victim was in her sister’s house when the accused approached her and offered her Ksh 20 to buy her trust before carrying out the heinous crime.
The court was further told that it was a neighbor who fund the minor after the defilement and notified elders who in turn notified the police.
The accused person pleaded guilty for the two offences and was convicted on his own confession.
In return the convict pleaded with the court to pass a lenient sentence noting that he is remorseful for the offence.
On the other hand, the court noted that although the accused person had been remorseful throughout the hearing of the case, it is the duty of the court to give a sentence that would serve a deterrence effect to the community.
Magistrate Charles Kutwa sentenced him to serve life imprisonment with a fourteen days right of appeal.
