Paul Wainaina has resigned from his role as Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor.
The professor quit his plum job days after President Uhuru Kenyatta threatened to deal with him after allegedly refusing to hand over a piece of land to construct a World Health Organisation (WHO) hub at the institution.
The president had promised to deal with the KU management ‘swiftly and effectively’ ahead of his retirement.
“This land belongs to Kenya, and what this facility is going to do to help us improve healthcare, to help us meet emergencies, not just in Kenya but throughout the entire African continent and you want to put the brakes…any way, I still have three weeks left, we shall deal with those individuals swiftly and effectively. I will go home with them,” Uhuru warned.
On Saturday Kenyatta revealed that Kenya, Nigeria and Senegal had been selected by WHO to host a logistics hub that will be equipped with emergency medical personnel, commodities and equipment to support countries with emergencies in Eastern Africa.
The facility will provide medical training services and will be able to respond to over 100 crises at a time.
